Russell led from the start with Antonelli in P2 going after him, and Antonelli pushed so hard that he went off track trying to force something and dropped behind Norris in the process. Toto was not happy, which is understandable when a possible win turns into third place because a driver refused to sit still and wait. The two Mercedes are finally racing each other for real.

Antonelli spent the second half trying to win back what he had thrown away, closing on Norris from lap 14 and sitting right behind him by lap 17. He was still there on lap 20, and still there on the last lap with one more chance to make it count. Nothing came of it. He finished exactly where he started.

Piastri got past Hamilton near the end to take P4, a quiet move that still matters when the points are counted, and Hamilton came home P5.

The Grand Prix is on Sunday, same track but 70 laps instead of 23. Nothing about this suggests Antonelli will be any more patient.
