Verstappen was out on lap 1. Then Russell was told to move aside.

The last ever race at Zandvoort, and the home crowd got 1 lap of it before Verstappen was out of it. After that the afternoon belonged to other people's problems.

Mercedes told one driver to move over for the other and he did it. Ferrari tried the same thing, couldn't decide, and lost time arguing about it. Norris won again.

The Race

It rained, then stopped, and the track was dry at the front and still wet through the last corner. Everyone started on dry tyres anyway. On lap 1 Verstappen put a wheel on the painted line at his home race, lost it, and went into the barrier.

Red flag. Everyone got a free set of tyres and the race started again. Norris led the restart, then lost it to Antonelli on lap 6. The 19 year old leading the championship then held it for most of the next 35 laps.

The lead changed hands again and again. Hamilton even led twice himself, by staying out while everyone else pitted. Norris took it back for good on lap 55 and was never seriously challenged after that.

Hamilton stopped later than Leclerc, so his tyres were much newer, and he caught him. He got on the radio to say he was quicker and his tyres were better. Every driver knows what that means: let me past.

Ferrari didn't want to pick a side. They tried to pit Leclerc out of the way instead, he declined, and the 2 of them sat there losing time to everyone ahead. Hamilton on the radio afterwards: "Great job wasting my time."

Mercedes had the same call a few laps later and just made it. Antonelli had been closing on his teammate for 3 laps. On lap 67 Russell was told to move aside, and did. Nobody had to fight anybody.

Russell was not thrilled, asking on the radio whether his teammate was even quick enough to go and win. He was not, and they finished P2 and P3, but the difference is that Mercedes made the call inside a lap while Ferrari never really made it at all.

Hamilton's tyres were wearing out and we flagged it more than once. The virtual safety car gave him the stop he needed, but Russell stayed out, and that was that. P4 and P5 for the Ferraris.

Elsewhere In The Grid

Alonso spent most of the race with Albon all over him, then Gasly took over the chase in the closing laps. He held on to P9, and the first points of the season for Aston Martin.

That's 2 wins in a row for Norris, and he's beating Piastri comfortably this year. Whether that means McLaren are back is a different question: Antonelli still leads the championship by 59 points with 11 races left.

Lawson ran P7 on his Red Bull return. Tsunoda came in for the weekend, had never driven one of these cars in a race, and finished P11. Monza is next, on 6 September.

1.0.3 held up across both races this weekend. Track mode, the one for when you can't get to a TV, ran the whole Grand Prix as it was meant to. It's still with a small group for now, and it'll open up to everyone soon.
