The pole margin was too small to see with the naked eye, and it barely mattered. Antonelli was right behind Hamilton from the start, sitting under a second back and refusing to go away. By lap 7 he was close enough to attack. One lap later, he got past. Hamilton had used up his car's speed boost defending, so he couldn't fight back once Antonelli found a way through.

Hamilton stayed close for a lap or two, but he never got back within a second of Antonelli. Then Antonelli started pulling away for good, half a second a lap faster. The gap was soon close to 2 seconds and growing. It was not bad driving from Hamilton. The Mercedes was simply the faster car at Silverstone that day.

Russell started P5 and soon caught up to Verstappen, then got stuck behind him, unable to find a way past for lap after lap. Once he finally cleared him, he spent the rest of the sprint closing in on Norris, but ran out of laps before he could get close enough to try a pass. He finished P4, ahead of Leclerc and Verstappen.
